According to scripture Guru is a combination of GU means darkness and Ru is the remover of darkness or dispeller of darkness and ignorance. Is it the true meaning of Guru? No, I don’t think so. Darkness and dispeller or remover of darkness can’t stand together. The meaning of guru should be who has removed their ignorance and darkness and become enlightened. He becomes a light who shows the light to others. Who has becomes enlightened? Light can’t be incomplete. That could be the reason that we celebrate the guru Poornima festival on the day of full moon day of aaShaadha maas as per the Hindu calendar. The fourth month of the year Aashaadha mass begins with the Sun’s entry into Gemini. Full moon day or Poornima represents completeness. The relationship between guru and disciple is like the relation of Amavasya with Poornima. Guru represents Poornima and shishya is one form of Amavasya. Guru cannot be darkness or ignorance nor agyan, Guru is complete and shows the path to become the same. Guru is a mentor who takes their disciple into the light from the darkness. He is the dispeller of all ignorance. He takes towards completeness from incompleteness as Moon moves from darkness of Amavasya to brightness of full moon day. Disciples come to guru for their fulfillment. Guru is full of complacency. Disciples go to the Master for removal of avidya and ignorance.
Guru is like a lighted lamp and disciples are like unlighted lamp who wants to kindle themselves. In grosser form If you see a lamp which we use during Diwali made of which material. In India made from earthen or any other metal. To kindle it we need oil, cotton, etc. We arrange all these and then need a very powerful element fire called a sadguru. Lamp of knowledge should not get extinguished. We have to protect it. When all the required material is a separate lamp can’t be kindled it. That’s why we need an enlightened master (sadguru) who helps in arranging all systematically. once you found a sadguru all required things will come to you naturally automatically, and those who want to kindle their inner soul we have to contact with the fire part of the lamp, not the external part.
In today’s era, we have guru-disciple relationships like mentioned above two types of lamp lighted and unlighted. The first lamp is sadguru who is enlightened and the other lamp is disciples or students. Other lamps come in contact with the first one for kindle their self with lots of expectations. How most of the lamps connect with the first one. We never try to know it. Guru and disciples live together for years and years. They serve the guru all the time. But still, they are unable to enlighten their selves? Most of all we connect the outer side external part only. The very simple reason because none of us try to come in contact with that flame in which light and heat exist. None of us try to take risk of touching it. If someone tries to touch it. Once they experienced pain and heat both. next time they scared of touch it. That’s why most of us will live with the outer layer of the guru in which there is no such pain and risk. But those who take the risk of it they kindle their lamp.
Guru Bina Gyan nahi Gyan bine Pragati nahi.
Sadhguru is the source of knowledge & development.
